Wedding Tips: Creating a Registry

Before I even start to explain how B and I created our registry, I would def suggest doing this at least three months before your Bridal shower. Not all couples have a shower a month or two before their wedding, or at all. But if you plan on having one, I def suggest creating it no later than three months before. Whoever is throwing it for you, or you yourself, will need time to get the information to include on the shower invitation, will send the invitations out, and should get responses all before the actual shower. So make sure you give them enough time to do all of this (sorry Mom!).

Anyway, creating a registry is really fun, once you get to the scanning things around a store. But there are so many places you and your partner could go, how do you decide? For us we thought about what we really need. We’ve lived together for 5 years so we obviously already have the basics. Luckily for us, our family members had household items and furniture they were getting rid of around the time we were moving in, so we were gifted most of what we needed. And as time has gone on, we’ve bought things here and there put our touches on our home. Also there were things that just needed to be replaced. So we are using our registry as a way to finally put our touch on more of our home and to upgrade more things that have taken us so far.

There are so many places to go, so we started with figuring out what we need. There’s no need for us to replace everything, so we brainstormed what types of stuff we need the most: more spoons, new strainer, new bowls, new shower curtain, new towels, etc. Luckily there are many places that have these items! Here’s a few places we’ve considered:

Bed, Bath and Beyond
Target
Kohl’s
Macy’s
Ikea

Then, since I like to have an idea of what to look for, we “shopped online” by putting things that we’d like to include on the registry in our online shopping cart. This was surprisingly helpful when deciding what second location to register. Places that we thought we’d like more stuff from, wasn’t actually the case. If you’re still not sure where to register, look at the different programs that stores have for registries. Some offer discounts or rewards points, so one place may end up being better than another.

Another option, if you really don’t want or need a lot is a honeymoon registry. There are many websites now that allow you to set up where you and your partner want to go on your honeymoon as a registry. Your guest can pick a part of your trip they’d like to cover: flights, hotels, restaurants, shows, or other activities! Here are a few links to honeymoon funds I’ve found: here, here, here (stay tuned for a future post on this).

One more step closer in the planning! I know I’m getting really excited at this point, I hope these tips have helped make you’re planning go a little smoother so you’re excited too! Happy Planning!
